Description
Sunrise colours distant volcanic peaks orange in Lauca National Park in the far north of Chile. The Park is also part of the Lauca Biosphere Reserve, recognised by UNESCO in 1981. The wetlands in the foreground are a type called bofedales which are mainly found in the bleak high altiplano regions of the Andes. They consist of Oxychloe andina cushion plants and other species of grasses and mosses interspersed with shallow pools and rivulets. They are often the main source of water in dryer regions.
