Description
Lima's main central square is called the Plaza de Armas or Plaza Mayor and is the focal point of the historic city centre. Construction of the current cathedral began in 1598 though it has been extensively modified since and had to be virtually rebuilt after a major earthquake destroyed much of the city in 1746. The Archbishop's Palace was inaugurated in 1924 and is a fine example of the neo-colonial style architecture that appeared in the city in the early 20th century
