Description
A black-crowned night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) waits patiently on a post near the shore of Lake Titicaca. It is a relatively common and widespread species, found worldwide except for Australasia and the Polar regions and seems to be equally at home in freshwater wetlands and coastal regions. This is a juvenile bird which is probably only 1 moult or so away from full adult plumage; it is already showing the black crown that adults have.
